Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Peter O'Neill says the National Intelligence Organisation is completely rundown.
He made the admission when answering a question from Kundiawa-Gembogl MP Tobias Kulang on the status of the State agency. O’Neill said it had not been “fully functional for some time”. “In fact, it has been rundown for many, many years because of neglect by many governments, including ours,” he said. “We recently appointed the current Police Commissioner (Gari Baki) to revamp that organisation, but because of his experience, we moved him to the police constabulary. “Today we are speaking to our Chief Secretary to recruit a leader who’s going to lead that organisation. We have been talking to other counterpart agencies around the world to rebuild this organisation, particularly because it is important that we have protection over our national interests, and national security of our country.”
