THE National Capital District Metropolitan superintendent Andy Bawa is calling on lawyer Wass Korowi to voluntarily surrender to police.
Mr Bawa said yesterday that the lawyer, who bashed his mother-in law, was on the run and that police had difficulty locating him over the weekend since the reports of the violence was published on social media and in the newspapers. Last week, the Post-Courier published reports of a 39-year-old married mother, Lero Kobol, with six children and from Mendi, Southern Highlands Province, was assaulted by the principal of Korowi Lawyers – her own son in-law, as the neighbourhood and family members watched helplessly. A police statement from the Boroko Police station confirmed that Mrs Kobol was assaulted by her son-inlaw Mr Korowi, who is believed to be the principal of Korowi Lawyers. Police said the lawyer had also on certain occasions allegedly raped his wife’s sister but the matter could not be reported as Mrs Kobol alleged that the lawyer has threatened them. This report was also aired on television and vigorously condemned on social media since it was published. Yesterday, Mr Bawa made a strong call for Mr Korowi to voluntarily surrender to the police so he can be dealt with. Mr Bawa told this newspaper that the lawyer concerned has been on the run and the police have been searching for him since the report was officially presented by his mother in-law at the station. "I want him to please surrender voluntarily as a concerned lawyer and a law abiding citizen, especially a man who understands law – he should surrender himself," Mr Bawa said. "Police went searching his home but he was not there. I don’t want police searching for him, he should surrender himself." PNG Facts / Post Courier Comments are closed.
