The legislation on Cyber Crime and Sim Card Registration is expected to be tabled in Parliament in the November session of the House.
Communication and Information Minister, Jimmy Miringtoro, announcing this during the launch of the new-look NBC in Port Moresby yesterday says, the legislation also seeks to curb the usage of social media as well as the cross media law. "And the legislation on cyber crime and sim card registration is about to be enacted as law around November. "The cross media ownership law is another area I am pursing to ensure our state communication entities are protected and there is a level playing field for all," Minister Miringtoro said. Mr. Miringtoro has also raised concerns about the industry becoming a monopoly saying it's dangerous when there's only one carrier and distributor. The Minister says he will ensure the majority of people are not inconvenienced and are able to afford these services or receive them for free.
