Papua New Guinea will increase number of Police personnel to over 10, 000 by 2018. .
The country's Police Commissioner Gari Baki revealed this yesterday in Mt Hagen in line with his plan to extend the Bomana training college into the regions. He said that any region that was prepared would be allowed to have a police Training College. He said when there were many training colleges the number of police would be increased. “We need to extend the training college because I see that there is a need,” Baki said. “The move is to increase the number of police personnel when the Bomana training college is extended and regionalised.” He said Bomana police training college would have a name change because that would be where officers could extend their knowledge instead of it being used for the six months training only. He said he had new plans to restructure the police force with the support of the modernisation programme. “There are many plans for the force but my vision is to increase the number of officers in the country.”
