PNG Power is calling on the public not to light fires close to wooden power poles at this time of dry weather following some incidents recently in Madang causing power black outs.
According to the power company, the areas that reported wooden power poles being burnt down are; Ulalanb area with 3 poles, Dylup area with 2 poles, Mirap area with1 pole, Pau area also with 1 pole and Vidar area with 3 poles burnt. It’s not easy to replace the wood poles because it is done by manpower, so it took almost one and half week to replace them. Supply was restored all the way to Mirap last Thursday, while Vidar pole was replaced on Friday. Locals are urged to listen to disaster warnings and not lighting bush fires at this time of El Nino.
