Investigations into the fires which gutted down several building in Lae in recent times are not caused by any electrical fault.
A report released by P-N-G Power into the preliminary investigation suggest the fires have been caused by other sources. The report was released in response to claims by the Lae M-P, Loujaya Kouza who blamed constant power black-outs to be the cause of fires to three buildings in one month. In all the three fire cases, PNG Power response time to the call was less than 5 minutes in disconnecting electricity supply to the buildings that were on fire. PNG Power found in its investigation that power supply to these three properties were healthy until isolated straight after a call was received at the PNG Power 24 Hour Call Centre. The report also stated that electricity supply was intact at the time of fire. This has prove that the blackouts are not the cause of fire as alleged by the Minister for Community Development Louzaya Kouza. PNG Power thinks the fire could have been cased by additional loads added to all installations without being approved by PPL Inspectors. Also Wear and tear of wiring's and poor general housekeeping standards by property owners Comments are closed.
