PNG Political Parties Face Deregistration Over Non-Compliance

​Papua New Guinea’s Registrar of Political Parties and Candidates, Emmanuel Pok, has announced that 32 out of 56 political parties are set to be deregistered on October 30 for failing to comply with legal requirements.

Mr Pok said the parties were issued notices of intention to cancel their registration on September 30 and have been given 21 days to respond.

Among the affected parties are East Sepik Governor Allan Bird’s People’s Reform Party, the New Generation Party, PNG First Party, and Bryan Kramer’s Allegiance Party.

According to Mr Pok, the 32 political groups breached sections of the Organic Law, particularly Section 88, which requires the submission of annual financial returns.

He revealed that only three parties — the People’s Reform Party, the Liberal Party, and the PNG Country Party — have responded to the notice so far.

Mr Pok expressed disappointment that many parties have ignored the directive, saying the Registry is simply enforcing the law.

He urged political organizations to take compliance seriously to maintain transparency and accountability in PNG’s political system.
