Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape has refuted reports, particularly by the Australian media that PNG is seeking China's assistance to refinance its K27 billion debt. Mr. Marape told reporters today after the 2019 PNG Update at the University of Papua New Guinea in Port Moresby, that it is 'fake news.' The Australia media ran several stories purportedly from a statement released from the PM's office on Tuesday this week, alleging that PM Marape at his meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to PNG Xue Bing asked Beijing to help refinance this billion kina debt.
