Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape has issued orders for the immediate arrest of persons who cross the country's borders, especially from high-risk countries like Australia and Indonesia. Mr. Marape was responding to questions from NBC News about the illegal crossing of an Australian couple from Indonesia who sailed into the country over the weekend and went through to Manus, on their way to East New Britain Province. An Italian also sailed into Port Moresby over the weekend. The Prime Minister said there is no reason why citizens should be crossing borders during this lockdown. "Controller you know, no one is supposed to our borders, if anyone is traveling through our borders have them arrested and lock them up, that's an order from me and that's the same order will be allowed in Parliament. "We are not asking anyone to come in, there is no reason why they should travel into PNG and vise versa," said Marape. Meantime, the State of Emergency Controller and Police Commissioner David Manning said contact has been made with the illegal border crossers into Papua New Guinea, over the weekend.
