PNG Prime Minister James Marape has emphasized the need for reform in the health sector to support the country's economic growth. He urged provincial health authorities to implement the national health plan effectively, utilizing the Public Investment Programme funding allocated by the Government each year. Reaffirming his administration's commitment to delivering essential health services, Marape highlighted the importance of a strong workforce in advancing national development. Addressing healthcare professionals at the National Health Conference at Apec Haus in Port Moresby, he called on them to elevate their performance as the country approaches its next 50 years. The Health Department revived the conference after an eight-year pause, aiming to foster dialogue and reinforce efforts among public health professionals to improve healthcare services across Papua New Guinea.
Marape underscored the essential value of health to the nation’s future, stating, “There is no greater price to pay than for the health of our people.” He recalled his 2019 commitment to fostering economic growth, which he said depends on a healthy and educated population. The Prime Minister encouraged healthcare workers to reflect on their practices and adopt best approaches to enhance healthcare delivery for the people of Papua New Guinea. Also read
