Papua New Guinea Parliament Speaker, Theo Zurenuoc has asked M-P’s who have cases in court or before Leadership
Tribunals to voluntarily refrain from taking their seats in Parliament. In a statement in Parliament yesterday, Mr. Zurenuoc told M-P's that for the sake of dignity and respect, those who are in such situations must not attend Parliament sittings. The Speaker said all MP’s must follow these instructions, and that his legal team is going through Section 19 of the Constitution to get further clarification on the matter. Mr Zurenuoc invited MP’s who are involved in ongoing court battles or tribunals to visit his office to discuss and find the best possible outcomes. The Governor for Gulf Havila Kavo has been convicted in a criminal court, and is awaiting sentencing, while Minister for Community Development, Youth and Religion Delilah Gore was found guilty of improper public conduct by a Leadership Tribunal this week. Others include the Member for Bogia John Hickey and Kagua-Erave's James Lagea who are both before the Leadership Tribunal. Manus MP Ronny Knight is also in court, appealing a Leadership Tribunal decision which went against him.
