The company accused widely of engaging in allegedly improper deals with the Health Department and Central Supply and Tenders Board has been cleared by the Public Accounts Committee.
The committee yesterday exonerated Borneo Pacific Pharmaceutical Limited from any corrupt practices and appealed for an end to criticism and to instead allow the company to proceed with their operation of delivering the 100 percent medical kits they tendered to provide in Papua New Guinea. Committee chairman John Hickey grilled Health Secretary Pascoe Kase and the department’s technical evaluation committee over the awarding of the contract for nearly six hours in Parliament yesterday. CSTB board chairman Philip Eludume and the entire board were also present yesterday, answering all the questions prepared for them by the PAC team. Auditor General Philip Nauga was also present with his team, most of the time coming in between to supplement questions from Mr Hickey Borneo owner Martin Poh was also present in the room while leaders from the Health Department, CSTB and other government agencies who were summoned by the PAC, were being questioned. They all copped a lot of criticism from critics, government advisers, health and medical officersfor being awarded the K71.4 million contract to procure these 100 percent medical kits to PNG. In the midst of all this, the team was advised that the supply is on the way and will be in PNG in two weeks time. In the end, Mr Hickey announced there was nothing sinister about the contract. The committee was satisfied that there was a misunderstanding among critics. Comments are closed.
