The Opposition is going to court, to challenge changes which the Government made to sections of the Constitution.
The Opposition has filed court papers, questioning the legality of amendments to Sections 145 and 124 of the Constitution. Parliament recently changed and passed the historic Constitutional amendments to Section 145 on Votes of No Confidence on the 30 months Grace Period, and Section 124 on the number of sitting days from 63 to 40 days. Opposition Leader Belden Namah told a conference yesterday, that Prime Minister has butchered the Constitution, giving more power to the Executive Government. "The Prime Minister has built the fence around himself, by cannibalizing the constitution to give security to himself to rule for five years. And we believe that it is in reach of the constitution, which in reach of the Parliamentary democracy that by removing third press of vault. The Parliament normally uses to keep the executive a cheque has been removed. Now with the 40 days the government can come in for two months seat for 40 days, 20 months of each month and the rest of the years is just wasted. The question now is now why are we as members of Parliament elected to Parliament. If you look at it the power has the Parliament normally has has already been shifted to the executive governments. Parliament is now just a near just a rubber stamp". Lawyer Loani Henao, who filed the application on behalf of the opposition, described the constitutional changes as a very serious breach.
