Papua New Guinea and New Zealand have held successful bilateral talks on a range of issues.
Foreign Affairs Minister, Rimbink Pato, and his New Zealand counterpart, Murray McCully, are satisfied with the talks in Port Moresby yesterday, which will enhance both nations relations. Mr. Pato, who hosted a dinner for the New Zealand delegation last night, says New Zealand is a small country, but very efficient in many aspects of its development, which P-N-G can learn from. "The priority areas are bilateral Defence Cooperation, APEC, renewable energy, fisheries management, surveillance of the resource which is a problem in small island developing states and how New Zealand can assist in that, air travel services agreement between our two countries, how we can better the linkages because of the PIF (Pacific Islands Forum) coming next month and APEC in 2018. We also discussed seasonal workers program for Papua New Guinea citizens in New Zealand." The parties also discussed Geothermal as an energy option for PNG. The delegation is in Enga Province today for a groundbreaking ceremony of a pilot mini Hydro project which the New Zealand government is funding. The delegation leaves for Solomon Islands later today.
