Papua New Guinea Madang MP and Justice Minister Bryan Kramer say he will take the Covid-19 vaccine to help dismiss misinformation about it. Mr. Kramer, who recently recovered from COVID 19 said although he was not considered at high risk of becoming seriously ill or dying from the virus and don't require the immediate protection of the vaccine, he will take it to dispel the false and misleading statements spread by a handful of people about the vaccine. Bryan Kramer, in a statement, said those people spreading false and misleading statements are poorly informed about the real risks that come from being infected with Covid-19, and the importance of the vaccine in reducing the spread of the virus. He said that when the vaccine arrives in PNG, priority will be given to frontline health workers.
The vaccine will then be offered to essential workers before being made available to the ‘at-risk population. Mr. Kramer said it will not be compulsory to take the vaccine adding that they won’t be forcing anyone to take it. He added that fake news does not help anyone in such a time of crisis.
