The PNG Immigration and Citizenship Services Authority has been directed to tighten up its Visa Screening measures to counter the illegal entry of foreigners. Minister for Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Rimbink Pato issued the instructions to acting Chief Immigration Officer, Solomon Kantha, in light of the recent Kokoda saga, as well as other illegal entries by foreigners. Mr. Pato ordered for the stringent measures be placed on foreigners, especially tourists applying for visa on arrival, to determine whether they have adequate funds to support them and also a planned tour itinerary. Meantime, the Immigration Department is conducting a separate investigation to establish if the tourists involved in the Kokoda saga have provided factual information upon their application for visa on arrival. Minister Pato said it would be an immigration offence, if the information provided was not true, in terms of the purpose of their visit.
