The Papua New Guinea government has set a tentative date of January the 12th for a coronial inquest into five scientists who went missing in the waters of West New Britain in August of 2011.
Chief secretary Sir Manasupe Zurenuoc has set that date tentatively, but will make an official announcement once all instruments are completed. Last week police announced that they have ended their latest investigation into the disappearance of the 5 scientists and 3 crew, citing a lack of cooperation from West New Britons. The scientists had been undertaking research for the Medical Institute when they disappeared. Police at the time feared they had been kidnapped and most recently followed leads that the two women scientists within the group were being held captive in remote West New Britain.
