The Papua New Guinea has turned away a Qantas passenger plane bound for Port Moresby mid-air yesterday and instructed the pilot to return back to Brisbane, Australia. This happened as the country is undertaking measures to protect its borders, by restricting international travel among others, with a 14 -day State of Emergency which began yesterday - in light of its first COVID-19 or Coronavirus confirm case. Police Minister Bryan Kramer confirmed this said despite having Papua New Guinean's onboard the flight, the directive was already in place for no incoming passengers especially from overseas. "Government has made a clear position during these 14 days we will not accept incoming passengers either PNG citizens or visitors until we are prepared to manage this crisis. "Once we are certain that COVID-19 moves back to green then we will decide to allow citizens back into the country. "But if we are having PNG citizens in Australia these are developed countries with good robust health systems and that is the best place to be at this time, not PNG. "I asked for the corporation and considerations from the families of those affected by this decision until the government make a clear assessment of the situation within PNG after 14 days," Kramer explains. next : PNG High Court To Hear Application On Stay Bougainville's Issue Of Writs Comments are closed.
