The Government is spending over 250-million Kina each year on office rentals to house its departments and agencies. Government Chief Secretary, Isaac Lupari, said this money could be better spent on other developments. Mr. Lupari has instructed the Department of Personnel Management Secretary, John Kali, to provide a full report on all office rentals. He said, the Government will be outsourcing rentals from private professionals to manage and also negotiate cheaper rates. The Chief Secretary has expressed concern saying government officers needs to be together at one location which will make it easier for clients and visitors to access. Currently government departments and organisations renting private building all over the city. Notable government departments with no proper office building includes, Department of Information & Communications, Community Development, Youth and Religious, Foreign Affairs among others. Department of Foreign Affairs have been moving places since, and at one stage they have been locked out of a building they were renting due to non payment of rentals. Community Development went through similar situations. Issac Lupari said, he had already discussed the issue with Secretary for Personal Management John Kali and have requested for a full report on office rentals. Lupari said, the 250 million kina spent on rentals annually can be saved and better spent on other developments. Meantime, the Central Government Building opposite the Manasupe House is set to open later this month, and this is expected to lower rental costs. NBC/PNGfacts
