Papua New Guinea is the first in the South Pacific region and fourth in the World to have a women's bank.
The Women's Micro Bank of PNG officially opened for business in Port Moresby yesterday. (Friday 15th of August) Amongst the dignitaries who were present at the opening ceremony were, Trade Commerce and Industry Minister, Richard Maru, National Capital District Governor Powers Parkop, Minister for Youth, Religion and Community Development, Delilah Gore, and founder of PNG Women in Business, Janet Sape. It was a historic moment for women in PNG and the Pacific, as they now have a bank that will exclusively save their financial needs. The bank branch out of the PNG Women In Business Foundation Limited, which means the bank is owned by the women through the foundation. Trade Commerce and Industry minister Richard Maru when officiating at the ceremony on be half of the prime minister Peter ONeill says, its a break through for PNG to have this bank. The women bank and National Development are the only two banks which are100% owned by the people of Papua New Guinea. Ricahrd Maru who describe the new bank as a new born baby, has, urge the women to manage it and make it grow transparently. Minister Delaila Gore on be half of the women of PNG had thank the government and the PNG Women In Business Foundation for the great initiative. Minister Gore assured the government that women are capable of managing their homes and families, and they will manage and grow the bank. The Women's Micro Bank is located at Central Waigani , sharing the same building with Abel Computing. Comments are closed.
