Papua New Guinea will NOT achieve any of the Millennium Development Goals it had signed up to at the United Nations Millennium Declaration in year 2000, some fourteen years back.
PNG joined more than 189 Heads of State from all around the world, representing their citizens, signed onto the Millennium Delectation in year 2000 at the United Nations Millennium Summit in Geaneva. By signing the 8 MDG's, PNG government was held responsible at the highest political level to a set of 8 time bound targets , that when achieve will end extreme poverty world wide by 2015. Goals 1 to 8 commit world leaders to raise the poor out of poverty and hunger, get every child into schools, empower women, reduce child mortality, improve maternal health, combat HIV and AIDs, Malaria and other deceases and ensure environmental sustainability. However, the due date for the MDG is fast approaching, and PNG is still far from achieving any of the 8 goals, which includes Eradicate Extreme poverty and Hunger by 2015, Achieve Universal primary and Secondary Education, Reduce child mortality among others. An Economic Policy Analysis class at National Research Institute was told, that September 2015 is just around the corner, for PNG government to report back to UN on the progress made so far, but it is clear that PNG will not achieve any of the 8 goals. The reliable source also told the class, PNG over the years have made significant progress on MDG's. Meantime its understood a report on the MDG is already underway, with the assistance of UN.
