Deputy Commissioner of Police – Chief of Administration, Dr. Philip Mitna, paid tribute to the late Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Training, Peter Philip, while officially opening the training program for the second batch of 2023 police recruits at Bomana Centre of Excellence on Monday, November 11. Dr. Mitna expressed his deep sorrow over ACP Philip’s passing on November 1, highlighting his significant contributions to the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) and the Bomana Police College. Reflecting on ACP Philip’s legacy, Dr. Mitna noted that his dedication to the development and training of new officers would have a lasting impact. "The late ACP Philip has left an indelible legacy here at the college, having previously served as Commandant and most recently as ACP Training," Dr. Mitna remarked. He underscored ACP Philip’s commitment to modernizing and enhancing training programs, saying he made notable strides in his short tenure. Dr. Mitna acknowledged the progress ACP Philip achieved in reorganizing the administrative functions of the college, despite his brief time in the role. “ACP Philip’s efforts to revamp the college’s administration were exceptional, and we anticipated further positive changes before his untimely passing,” Dr. Mitna stated.
The loss of ACP Philip has been felt deeply by his family, the college staff, and the trainees at Bomana. "This is a challenging time, especially for his loved ones, the college staff and their families, and the trainees," Dr. Mitna added. He urged everyone to honor ACP Philip’s memory by continuing the journey and taking on the responsibilities he left behind. In the wake of his passing, Assistant Commissioner Perou Ndranou has been appointed as the new ACP Training, tasked with continuing ACP Philip’s work. RPNGC management has announced that ACP Philip will be honored with a state funeral, with ceremonies planned in both the National Capital District and East Sepik Province, where his casket will be transported to Wewak for burial.
