Officials from the Papua New Guinean Government attended the 2014 APEC Concluding Senior Officials' Meeting (CSOM) was held in Beijing. This meeting was held from 5-6 November and is the first event of this year's APEC Economic Leaders' Week (AELW) and the last APEC Senior Officials' Meeting of 2014. The officials included senior government officers from the Departments of Prime Minister and NEC, Foreign Affairs and Commerce and Trade. The meeting’s main task was to make political preparation for the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting (AELM) to be held in the following days. Prime Minister Peter O’Neill will attend the APEC Leaders’ Summit next week. He will focus mainly on Papua New Guinea’s connectivity to other APEC member countries, our development progress and will welcome the APEC community’s assistance in PNG’s intentions to host the APEC Summit in 2018. PNG APEC Senior Official, Ivan Pomaliu, announced that participants, under the theme "Shaping the Future through Asia-Pacific Partnership", have comprehensively reviewed progress of cooperation in the three priority areas, including ‘advancing regional economic integration’, ‘promoting innovative development, economic reform and growth’, and ‘strengthening comprehensive connectivity and infrastructure development’. “We also endorsed a number of initiatives on the realization of the Free Trade Area in the Asia Pacific (FTAAP), connectivity development, and innovative development, economic reform and growth. “These initiatives will be submitted to the APEC Ministerial Meeting (AMM) and the APEC Economic Leaders Meeting (AELM) for approval,” Mr Pomaliu said. He also said the CSOM has further endorsed cooperation initiatives in anti-corruption, ocean cooperation, innovation-driven growth, and women's participation in the economy.“Throughout our consultations, delegates have made positive progress on the outcome documents of the AELM and AMM.
