The Papua New Guinea Customs Service (PNGCS) has officially launched its first-ever Home Ownership Scheme Policy aimed at helping Customs officers acquire affordable housing. The policy was introduced in a recent low-key ceremony in Port Moresby, officiated by Chief Commissioner David Towe and Commissioner Border Security and Regional Operations, Benjamin Sine. Speaking at the event, Chief Commissioner Towe highlighted that this was the first time in 15 years that PNGCS has introduced a Home Ownership Policy. He said, "The policy will reward our staff with affordable housing," emphasizing that this move would help improve the welfare of Customs officers. The PNG Government has allocated K10 million for the implementation of the housing scheme, which Towe believes will enhance staff morale, improve productivity, and help retain and attract talented officers. He noted the importance of the scheme in ensuring Customs officers throughout the country have access to affordable accommodation.
Towe also stated that the new policy is a testament to PNGCS management’s commitment to addressing the needs of its officers. He said, “This policy will immensely leverage our efforts in addressing the basic need of affordable accommodation for Customs officers throughout the ports in the country.” The Chief Commissioner concluded by expressing his optimism about the effective implementation of the scheme, calling on all Customs officers to cooperate and participate in the initiative.
