Nepal has defeated Papua New Guinea by seven wickets with 10 balls remaining at the Sharjah Cricket Academy in the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday for its third win in four matches in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers.It was the third encounter between the two sides. They had met twice during last year´s qualifiers, with Nepal losing in the group stage and then beating Papua New Guinea in the seventh-place play-off.
Brothers Charles Amini and Chris Amini claimed one wicket each for Papua New Guinea. Charles conceded 34 runs in his four overs while Chris gave away 30 runs in 3.2 overs. Norman Vanua conceded 27 runs, Willie Gavera 20 runs and Mahuru Dai gave away 18 runs bowling three overs each. A Vala conceded 12 runs in his two overs. Earlier, electing to bat first, Papua New Guinea lost wickets at regular intervals but number four batsman Geraint Jones struck 55 runs to help his team reach 140/6. Former England wicketkeeper Jones, who came in 7.1 overs, hit four sixes facing 53 deliveries before he was caught by skipper Khadka off Jeetendra Mukhiya on the first ball of the 17th over. Jones has played 34 Tests, 49 one-day and two twenty20 internationals for England. Mahuru Dai was the second-highest scorer for Papua New Guinea with an unbeaten 36 off 22 that featured two fours and two sixes. Opener Tony Ura, who hit a quick-fire 22 off 14, was the only other batsman to reach double figures. He struck three fours and a six. Comments are closed.
