Prime Minister O'Neill's Peoples' National Congress Party Candidate David Arore is still leading with 6638 votes after the counting of primary votes were completed by close of business yesterday.
Runner up United Resource Party candidate John Warison was on 4556 followed by Independent candidate Sheldon Deilala with 3338 and another Independent candidate Richard Masere at 3325. Journalist and Triumph Heritage Empowerment Party candidate Simon Eroro was still trailing with 924 voted and awaiting elimination today. The only women candidate Evelyn Arotai Laviriu, running as another independent candidate was also trailing right behind with 87 votes and would have been eliminated when the paper went to press last night. There are 21 candidates contesting this Ijivitari Open seat which was initially won by David Arore. Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato said yesterday that the ongoing Ijivitari Open electorate by-election has completed the counting of primary votes at close of business yesterday ith the last four boxes from Safia LLG to complete all the 31 ballot boxes. He said last night that quality checks were being done for the elimination process to have started late last night. Mr Gamato said counting is expected to be completed in the next four days with the winner expected to be declared by Friday.
