Prime Minister Peter O’Neill will turn the first sod at the Bomana Police Housing Estate tomorrow to
officially launch the commencement of the Government’s much anticipated police housing project. Following a rigorous 12-month tender process, the design and construct project worth K49 million was awarded to local company Red Sea Housing Services and will provide accommodation for up to 150 police officers and their families. Due for completion in early 2015, the turnkey project comprises 150 three-bedroom housing units set on 70,000 square metres of land. According to Mr O’Neill the project will meet the immediate accommodation needs of the Royal PNG Constabulary in the National Capital District and is part of the Government’s ongoing commitment to increasing the levels of professionalism in the country’s law enforcement agency. “This housing project is representative of the strong platform we’re building for Papua New Guinea’s police force,” said Mr O’Neill. “By providing safe, comfortable and modern housing for our police officers, they will have increased motivation and capacity to better serve the community,” he said. With an estimated 150 local jobs to be created through the project, General Manager of Red Sea Housing, Mr Ken Clinton, said the project was also great news for the local economy and workforce. “This project, which has a 10-month timeframe after Government approvals, involves carving the subdivision, building the roads, constructing the houses and connecting the site to both power and water - so we’ll certainly be giving a boost to the local labour market,” Mr Clinton said. “Our goal is to employ and up-skill workers here in Port Moresby to not only ensure that the project remains on-time and on-budget but also to guarantee that local families directly benefit from the Government’s investment,’ he said. Red Sea Housing Services is a local PNG company that has been operating in the country for the past five years and has previously delivered 9,600 similar housing units for the LNG PNG project Comments are closed.
