Prime Minister Peter O’Neill said yesterday that today is a normal Parliament sitting which will also focus on the 2016 National Budget.
"It’s business as usual. I know there has been some discussions in the state of politics over the last few days. "This is a democratic country, we expect these kinds of discussions to take place from time to time. "I want to assure our people and our country that our Government will continue to provide stability that it really needs at this crucial moment," Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill said. He said that stability was necessary because of the many challenges faced, one of them is the global financial position," he said. "I want to assure the people of Papua New Guinea, the country is in safe hands. It is not the country that is being mismanaged, in fact it is a country that is growing fast. It is developing fast. "There are of course political opponents who are not going to praise us for the work that we are doing. It is their job to criticise us. That is expected in a very democratic society. "But one thing they cannot deny is the fact that this Government has achieved more in the past three or four years than many other governments in the past. "The Government is doing everything possible to maintain the growth of our economy, growth means jobs, jobs means food on the table for our families." Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill further welcomed the tabling of legislation that will allow Papua New Guineans of dual citizenship to carry the national passport and come and go from their country with ease. "There are many talented Papua New Guineans who have left our country but do not come back often enough. "Our Government wants to make it easier for our sons and daughters to come home more regularly, and to bring their knowledge and skills back to Papua New Guinea."
