National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop has told Parliament he has taken a tough and risky decision as a politician to impose the betel- nut ban in Port Moresby.
Governor Parkop said most people who are affected are his own voters, especially the unemployed people who depend entirely on betel -nut. But he said as a leader, he needs to make tough and risky decision when and where it is due, and in that case is for the good of the nation's capital, as this is the gateway to the country. Parkop said since the ban was imposed, he has been receiving criticisms from people who are affected by his decision but said he accept their criticisms. The governor apologies to his fellow governor for Central Kila Haoda and other elected members for the inconvenience caused to their people, but said his decision will still stand. Parkop however invited the leaders in the province and those of Gulf province to again discuss a win win situation.. Meantime, Parliament is yet to give a response on the petition to lift the ban, which was presented by governor Kila Haoda during the session. NBC Comments are closed.
