Prime Minister Peter O'Neil's spokesman Daniel Korimbao told the Fiji Sun, that Eafeare returned to Fiji on December 20, 2013, to resume duties following consultations with the Fiji and PNG Governments.
Mr. Korimbao is reported to say, PNG agreed to Fiji's request for Eafeare to give up the deanship of the diplomatic corps in Fiji. Mr. Korimbao also told the Fijian newspaper that Mr. O'Neil will be committing another funding of over 18-million Fijian Dollars, or about 25-million Kina this year, to help with running the general elections in Fiji in September. This Mr. Korimbao says is a sign of the close and cordial relationship the two countries enjoy, with trade and investment expanding in both economies. The Fiji Sun reports that High Commissioner Eafeare has been directed by Mr. O'Neil to begin negotiations with the Fiji Government, to develop a plan on how the 37-million Fijian Dollars, which is totalled from two separate 25-million Kina funding for this year and next year, will flow to support Fiji before and after the elections. Mr. Eafeare's immediate task is to facilitate President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau's visit to PNG, later this month. PNG Facts / NBC Comments are closed.
