More than 23 000 people in Papua New Guinea have been infected by the coronavirus and as of this week, more than 250 people have died so far in the country. The country's Health and H-I-V/AIDS Minister, Jelta Wong made this known in Parliament when answering questions asked by the Member for Pomio, Elias Kapavore during the parliament session this week. Minister Wong says most of the patients admitted at the hospitals are those that were not vaccinated. ''Let us be realistic, the official figures are no way near the actual numbers on the ground in the provinces.
''Just like other developing countries, that are suffering from the third wave of COVID-19, with the surge in Delta Variant, the actual number of people infected and dying are much higher due to lack of proper data collection,'' said Minister Wong.
