The Opposition's attempt to stop Parliament passing the 2016 budget yesterday was unsuccessful.
The House voted 84-votes against an adjournment to next week, when the budget can be debated and passed. Only 12 members, 10 from Opposition and 2 from the government voted unsuccessfully for an adjournment to next Tuesday. The two from the government were member for Lae Loujaya Kouza , and Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare. An angry Opposition Leader Don Polye, said it is undemocratic for the Government to hand down the national budget, and getting it passed by Parliament the same day. But Acting Parliament Speaker, Aide Ganasi, said there's a precedence where the national budget was handed down and passed the same day. "This is not the first time This has happened, on the Wednesday 07th of November, 1990 when the budget was presented it was passed the same day. So it's not the first"
