The Opposition wants to work with the Government and Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary to address its problem.
They said, there is a total break down in command, discipline and standards within the R-P-N-G-C. Opposition Leader Don Polye made his intentions known, to partner at the policy level to help solve these issues. Polye said they just do not want to be seen as police hierarchy or the government’s critic on police brutality and other policing issues. He however said they want to develop a partnership by way of providing alternative government policy about police matters on how to improve policing issues in the country. He said a chain of police brutality nationwide in a short space of time had prompted the politicians, the police hierarchy and other stakeholders to take appropriate measures to curb it. Polye has urged the government to strengthen the police intelligence unit apart from National Intelligent Organization to monitor and crackdown on trans-national crimes. He said the Opposition believes that P-N-G Police Force needs to strengthen its partnership and relations with international police through bilateral partners for arresting alleged trans-national and regional criminals.
