The National Court has stayed the Ombudsman Commission's directives, to stop the Government from repaying the U-B-S loan.
In a ruling yesterday, the Court said, the deal has already been made and staying the installment payments would put the country at risk with severe consequences, if it defaults. The deal was reached on March 12 and directives by the Commission came two days later. The court advised the Ombudsmen Commission to carry on its investigations under administrative jurisdiction and refer leaders found to have breached the leadership code. Judge Ambang Kandakasi considered the facts and circumstances surrounding the deal when ruling on the stay. Prime Minister Peter O'Neill and Acting Treasury Secretary Diari Vele took out the application, to ensure payments were given on time without disturbances. On the sixteenth of every month the government is expected to pay certain portion of the loan, with first instalments already done. This month would be the second. The same court on Wednesday, granted a judicial review for the Ombudsmen Commission directives, which will be heard at the Supreme Court. Comments are closed.
