Business Advantage PNG, reports PNG's former senior agriculture business executive Bob Hansen, as saying the loss in mining income could be as much as over 2-point-7 billion Kina, each year the copper and gold mine remains shut. Ok Tedi Mining Limited announced closing the mine because of low water levels on the Fly River, which is used to transport copper concentrate to Port Moresby. In a statement, the mine said the weather pattern experienced, is similar to that experienced between 1997 and 98, when operations were shut down for more than six months.
