VISA complications have denied Lawrence Tu’u inclusion in the 2016 Papua New Guinea Hunters squad.
The exclusion of Tu’u was because of discrepancies between two Australian visa applications lodged. Hunters coach Michael Marum said it had prolonged the processing of Tu’u’s visa which kept him from travelling with the team earlier this year. Marum said he was still keen on having the 25-year-old in his squad but had to exclude the Gulf man because the visa issue could continue to make travel to Australia impossible. “This decision to exclude him is from the PNGRFL and Hunters board which I have no control over,” Marum said. A local visa consultant Jack Kedea said a Australian visa submission requires proper clearance by the person lodging the application. Kedea said if the application was incorrectly applied then it would be rejected and proper clearances would then be needed again from the sponsors to re-apply for the visa. He said Australia Immigrations screening on visa for sports and long term employment took some time and when the application was deemed satisfactory a visa would be granted. Kedea suggested Tu’u could seek the help of Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko to write to the Australian Immigration to clear the issue and make way for him to rejoin the Hunters. Tu’u said he did not know that he had visa complications towards the end of the 2015 season and missed crucial matches because of this. “I don’t know why my Australian visa application was not approved and I’m still confused. “This complication was not explained to me properly as I’m still interested and willing to play for the Hunters,” Tu’u said. “I think it’s not only my responsibility but also the PNGRFL and Hunters management to clear the Aussie visa process. “I’m still available for the Hunters if they want me, it’s their decision to drop me but I still want to play. Tuu said he was not offered a contract anywhere else but would wait and see what transpires next year. In the mean time Tu’u may return to the Digicel Cup with the Gulf Isapea. Comments are closed.
