New Ireland's push for autonomy will be the main agenda the 7th Council of elders conference to be held next week.
Governor, Sir Julius Chan says discussions will centre around the province's unilateral autonomous status that was declared on the 7th of September this year and was ratified and passed by the provincial assembly . They've invited former politician, diplomat and minister of state, Sir John Kaputin to speak at the two day conference that will be held at Namasalang, along the West Coast of the province. Sir John is expected to contribute to discussions on autonomy and self reliance. The New Ireland Governor says the province has hosted many prominent and respected leaders of PNG at the Council of Elders Conference over the years, and Sir John's participation at the 7th Conference, is significant to their push for autonomy.
