Police Operations for New Year's Eve last night saw NCD Police conducting their operations in setting up road blocks, doing foot beats in settlements and sub-urban areas as well as motorized patrols including searching of black market bottle shops in which a couple of cartons were confiscated.
According to NCD Metropolitan Superintendent, Andy Bawa, New Year celebrations in Port Moresby City was quiet and peaceful than previous years.. “I am very impressed with our city residents as they have taken heed of the awareness and messages that we have put out through the different channels of the media and this has resulted in our city of Port Moresby having celebrated the Christmas and New Year in a peaceful manner without any major incidences reported as in previous years,” Mr Bawa said. He said that police operations throughout the city will continue today onwards and the liquor ban is still on until such time when the Liquor Licensing Board decides to uplift the ban. Mr Bawa has also thanked the work put in by his officers in their operations during this festive and new year period. “I want to thank my police men and women for their commitment in ensuring that our operations in the city was successfully carried out, but most importantly i thank and acknowledge the change in the behaviour of our city residents for making New Year Celebrations for 2015 in Port Moresby a safe a better one than in previous year.” “ This is a sign of change for our people,” Bawa said.
