Opposition Leader Belden Namah, has again called on Prime Minister Peter O'Neill to resign, following the controversial three-billion Kina U-B-S bank loan.
Namah's call comes, amidst former Treasurer, Don Polye's revelation on a radio talk-back show, yesterday. Mr Polye said, the deal was done by only one man and was not transparent. Namah has appealed for public support to pressure government on this issue. "When he sacked Don Polye, and served himself as the Treasurer, he is the Treasure to signed off the UBS loan. When such intervention by Transparency International or Ombudsman Commission to that on a serving Prime Minister in any civilized democratic societies, Prime Ministers resigns immediately. I am now calling on all Civil Societies, Trade Union, Churches and Students to come out and demand immediate resignation of Peter O'Neill." Meanwhile, Prime Minister Peter O'Neill, said the U-B-S loan was obtained through Cabinet's approval and advice sought from Treasury and the Central Bank. He said, the processes and transaction details of acquiring this loan will be tabled in the May Parliament sitting. O'Neill's statement was also supported by Finance Minister, James Marape. Marape denied Polye's comment's, saying Cabinet was aware of this deal. "Ah, it all happened under the watch of Treasury and Central Bank and I (Marape) do not understand how Treasure then, comes out later and saying that he never knew anything about this discussion, because his Secretary was very much involve in the entire thing right from the start. Secretary tells me that he (Polye) was brief all along. Let me assure everyone through this media that please be rest assured Prime Minister is NOT stupid, why will a Prime Minister sacrifice a country?...and for the first time our Prime Minister will table all transaction details to the last letter in May session of Parliament." The three-billion Kina loan was obtained from U-B-S, to buy 10-point-1 per cent State's shares in Oil Search Limited. Comments are closed.
