Deputy Police Commissioner and Chief of Police Operations in the country Simon Kauba, says the forces image is not that bad, but more needs to be done.
Addressing a parade at the McGregor Police Barracks outside Port Moresby today, Mr. Kauba says the nation still looks up to the force to provide security, despite the negative publicity about the blue uniform. Mr. Kauba says, members of the force must look up to senior officers and the management, to provide behaviour and work attitude examples. He made these remarks, as the Special Service Division of the force bade farewell to nine of its retiring members from the National Security Unit. Inspector Philip Gwand, Senior Constables Andrew Wapi, Markus Gwingwin and Tarcissius Hambrua, First Constables Evara Sari and Jonah Malu and Sergeant Michael Hambru and others, have each served over forty years, together totalling over 400 years of dedicated service. The SSD constitutes one-third of the police force, and continues to provide tactical policing services, intelligence, air service and close protection for the Prime Minister, the Governor General, and other dignitaries in the country.
