Papua New Guinea National Planning Minister Richard Maru said the re-emergence of polio in the country is a clear evidence of failure to focus on immunization as a key disease prevention strategy. Richard Maru said there is an urgent need for the country to have a National Immunization Plan to cover any form of diseases such as polio. Minister Maru has written a formal letter to Health Minister Sir Puka Temu requesting his department to immediately complete a four - year plan for launching next month. This is essential to meet the national target of achieving 80 percent immunization coverage by 2022. Currently the coverage is at 40 percent from 2018 as the base- year. The re-emergence of polio is a clear evidence of failure to focus on immunization as a key disease prevention strategy. NBC NEW/PNGfacts Comments are closed.
