Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape is of the view that laws governing the election of prime minister in PNG be changed to allow people to vote for prime ministers. The current West-Minster System of government adopted by Papua New Guinea only allows for elected leaders to vote for a new prime minister through Parliament. Speaking during the launch of the Consultation into the Form and System of Government on the Election of the Prime Minister, Marape admits with the current legislation, it is hard to fully serve the country. And as a citizen, Prime Minister Marape's view is to change the law and let Papua New Guineans vote for their Prime Minister instead of Parliament.
Marape also uses the occasion to make several recommendations- including one person one vote, and the National Parliament to have certain powers over the office of the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister’s views will be put in writing as recommendations to CLRC after consulting with 51 other members of the Government. The prime minister yesterday launched the Consultation into the Form and System of Government on the Election of the Prime Minister by the People. NBC News / PNGfacts Also read :
