A former security guard in Australia has been sentenced to more than 18 years in jail for the murder of his former Papua New Guinean girlfriend.
The Age Victoria reports Isac Ayoul Daing a former Melbourne security guard beat his ex-girlfriend 41-year-old Maryanne Sikai to death with a kitchen stool. Supreme Court Justice Terry Forrest says Daing's traumatic upbringing in war-torn Sudan was no excuse for Daing's horrific crime. Ms Sikai had asked her flatmate to change the lock on her front door the night before she died because she was terrified of Daing, who had beaten her in the past and was threatening to kill her. Justice Forrest said Daing broke into Ms Sikai's Footscray apartment, in the early hours of March 18, 2014. Daing and Ms Sikai argued the next day, before he hit her with a kitchen stool and continued beating her to death. Ms Sikai suffered multiple fractures to her face and skull. Daing pleaded guilty to Ms Sikai's murder.
