The former Chairman of the now defunct National Provident Fund Jimmy Maladina has been found guilty of conspiracy and misappropriating more than 2-million Kina of the fund.
The crime was committed 1997 and 1999, during the construction of the Deloitte Tower in Port Moresby. Deputy Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika handed down the verdict this afternoon at the National Court in Waigani. Circumstantial evidence before the court showed Maladina of benefiting from 400-thousand Kina from the amount of 2-million 560-thousand Kina. Maladina will return to court on June 4th, where both his and the State's lawyers will make submissions on a possible sentence. His bail of 10-thousand Kina has been extended.
