Illegal land grabbing of customary land within NCD and Central Province will soon leave rightful land owners of Hiri LLG and Motu Koitabuans without any land at all.
A committee has been formed by leaders of the LLG to address issues to do with the illegal/cheap sale of land by landowners without proper consultation. President of Hiri LLG Haoda Rogea blamed the Lands Department and other state entities to be the biggest culprits in the land grabbing saga. Among other resolution reached today, the committee will establish a new land management entity to protect the rights and promote interests of customary land owners in the Hiri District which surrounds NCD. The leaders of the Committee called for a complete end to the sale of land by land owners and land grabbing by individuals, state entities and businesses.
