Oro Governor Gary Juffa, has issued a warning to the Kokoda Track Authority that the Kokoda Track is on the verge of closure.
In a media statement, Governor Juffa alleges that a review of the KTA’s performance shows it has not benefitted the people of Kokoda. He said huge economic opportunities from agriculture and mining were forgone because past governments insisted the trail remain as a historic site. However, alternatives have not been provided. He said they are keen on keeping the trail open but needed to generate revenue to stimulate the economy and make it conducive for tourists. He added if the KTA cannot be of any economic use, then why bother recognizing that entity. An attempt to get a response from KTA today was unsuccessful. Governor Juffa has also issued a warning to foreign entities to consult the Provincial Government before carrying out any activities. He said they will not allow an uncoordinated and sometimes unsustainable effort even if the intentions are good. EMTV Comments are closed.
