Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill has urged the Internal Revenue Commission and Customs Service to collect more than K2 billion in taxes owed to the State.
Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill also wants the IRC to expand the tax base over and above the current 200,000 tax payers. "I understand there is over K2 billion that is still outstanding taxes to be collected for the Government and the people." We are encouraging the tax office to go out there and collect this money. This money belongs to the people of this country and the people need to use that money to expand more services particularly in health, education and infrastructure." The Prime Minister was debating the ministerial statement presented by Treasury Minister Patrick Pruaitch on the 2013 IRC Report in Parliament. "We commend the leadership that has been provided by the Treasurer. We have a very small revenue tax base in the country, I think less than 200,000 people are paying taxes, which is generating revenue to fund the entire country."
