The West New Britain Provincial Government has allocated 1-point-1 million Kina to provide relief to disaster victims and damaged infrastructure in the province.
West New Britain is amongst the worst affected provinces, whacked by the wild wet weather, experienced across the country. Governor Sasindran Muthuvel told NBC News, one child also lost his life, when a tree fell on him. "The damage is very widespread especially throughout the Talasea District starting from Hoskins all the way to Kimbe and Hoskins to Bialla and Hoskins to Koimumu. "There are widespread damages. This one is between the last two days development because of heavy wind lots of people. "More than 50-60 oil palm, you know trees fell on the ground and some trees fell on the power lines and I've personally seen fallen power lines being destroyed. "Two children, one instantly died actually when a tree fell on him, and another child is also in the hospital critical. "The unfortunate thing is that we were not really prepared to meet such real bad weather. Now the respond is coming very slow,"Mr. Muthuvel said. Governor Muthuvel is in Port Moresby to seek urgent relief assistance from the National Disaster Office, the Government and other relevant authorities. NBC
