By Peter Solo Kinjap JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) has launched a new scholarship programme known as the Pacific Leaders' Educational Assistance for Development of State (Pacific-LEADS) in recognition of the importance of fostering young leaders, who will play a key role in creating the future of Pacific Island Countries as well as further strengthening the relationship between the island countries and Japan. JICA is inviting applications from Government officials or civil servants (in some cases, persons from the private sectors and educators will also be considered) in the Pacific, to undertake a two and half year Masters programme, in priority fields in Japan. Citizens of any 14 Pacific Islands Countries between 22 and 39 years old (as of April 1st, 2016) with a bachelor's degree can apply. Participants will be selected and dispatched to Japan in 3 batches and the number of participants for each batch is planned as follows. 1st batch (arrival in Japan in 2016): 34 participants from 14 countries 2nd batch (arrival in Japan in 2017): 33 participants from 14 countries 3rd batch (arrival in Japan in 2017): 33 participants from 14 countries For more information, contact JICA office in PNG via email at: pn_oso_rep@jica.go.jp
