The release of convicted Police Commissioner Tom Kulunga on a ten thousand kina bail hasn't gone down well with Boman Prisoners.
They are calling on the Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia and Justice Minister Kerenga Kua to immediately look into the matter. Kulunga was granted a ten thousand kina bail, hours after the National Court sentenced him to seven months imprisonment for contempt. Spokesperson and Chairman of the prison's, Peace and Good Order Committee ,Dr Theo Yasause in a statement urge the two to establish whether there was undue influence and corruption involved without Kulunga meeting exceptional circumstances. Whether their was fairness and that the bail was grated in the interest of justice and the public. They say, although it was a right for a convicted person to to appeal there are issues that require explanation. Dr Yasause says many prisoners are awaiting court appearance for very long time, and have strong reasons for bail but were refused. This is a new precedence and the prisoner have called for mass bail to be granted throughout the country Comments are closed.
